DIY FLORAL MAXI SKIRT - DUBAI

HAPPY TUESDAY EVERYONE!!
NOW that Monday and its blues are behind us, my hopes are for a blissfully warm week for all. I'm fortunate enough to be home all week and therefore will be spending my time exploring the possibilities in my new found passion - or should I say re-kindled passion. Flashback years ago to boarding school in Zimbabwe, taking a course in Fashion and Fabrics was mandatory for my stream, (well either that or Agriculture, which loosely translated to spending all afternoon in the garden doing work...-hmm maybe NOT) so Fashion and Fabrics it was. The module back then was vastly limited to replicating our uniforms or general clothing but it is here that I discovered my passion for sewing.

THE art of transforming a simple garment into wearable art amazed me. It is a wonder- I had a passion for cooking also but I digress. This passion then took a backseat when we moved abroad and shopping came the forefront ~ I'm sure many ladies can relate.... Overtime, a deep desire to connect with my roots, my past and to also find the woman in me, sewing came back into my mind. I discovered that I can express my Individuality through my style and what I create. I was only an mature then and still am now. This is a journey of discovery that will undoubtedly  take time to master.

When i first laid eyes on the floral-print fabric, I knew what I would do with it. And when the maxi skirt came out just as I envision it, I wanted to celebrate this creation. What better way to celebrate my creation than to wear on my visit to the tallest Man-made building in the world! Atop the BURJ KHALIFA!

Thank you for reading in and enjoy the pictures. If you have read this far and were entailed by the blog ~ subscribe for more updates and content. Oh and also a big shout out to my colleague Lisa, an amazing photographer who spent half the time up at the Burj taking pics of me

Many thanks

Playdate With Butterflies!

HAPPY Tuesday everyone!. Today is a beautiful day, another chance to concur and prosper but most of all Monday is over! Yes we all know the dread and loath  that accompanies this day. My Monday however, did not start off with an apprehension at the long week ahead or struggling to get up and out of bed. My Monday was spent playing with butterflies!

YES this is by far one of the best ways to waste a Monday away. Butterflies are the epitome of Beauty.   these little beautiful creatures wonder around the world spreading warmth and beauty with seemly nary a care in the world - Oh what it would be like to live like a butterfly for day..........*sigh*  Ill settle for spending the day with them however.

IF you're a butterfly lover and enthusiast then may i recommend visiting the Dubai Butterly Garden. Situated a few minutes drive from the Central, the Dubai Butterfly Garden is haven to over 15 000 butterflies from around the world - spanning from 26 different species varying in size and colour. The gardens in which they reside are encased in 3 big climate controlled domes making it a great spot for family outings. A great kicker is there are stuff who can teach you to properly touch a butterfly and not scream or startle like I did when a beautiful PAPILIO NIREUS lands on your shoulder .....oops!
Oh another added feature is the garden dome embellished by colourful umbrellas ~ perfect for that Instagram photo.

 enjoy xx

WELCOME BACK! A day In the Big Apple!!

LOVELIES I am Back!!!! It has been a while (years really) since I've posted here.
I have written many drafts in the receding years however, i never could bring myself to post them. Well lets hope this one makes it to the submit button.

SO recently i have been thinking more about my life, work and the blessings showered upon me each day that i do not fully utilise. Often people message me on social media stating how privileged i am to live and do the work i do.
Each time i read these messages i am tepid with myself, therefore when i was scheduled to work a flight to New York after 4 months of not being there, i bestowed upon myself an agenda to get out and explore.

THE mission was simple - visit some part of New York you haven't been before. Sounds easy right? seeing as the last 5 or 6 time i have visited The Big Apple, I always ended up at the popular Times Square walking and exploring until I felt tired enough to desire my bed.
This would then be followed by an attempt to walk the Brooklyn Bridge into Downtown New York the next day --(emphasis on A T T E M P T as half the time i did not make it out of my bed).

Laziness and my love for sleep always got the better of me (I blame jet lag and time zones on this one), so I decided to visit Central Park as the-place-i-havent-been before and of course walk the Brooklyn Bridge. Walking the Brooklyn Bridge is one of my favourite things to do in New York, it has become a sort of ritual (add Central Park to the list now).

THE day began an hour later than planned but still bright an early in my opinion. I walked the bridge, soaking in the sun and stunning views of Downtown New York, Liberty Island where The Statue of Liberty Resides, Dumbo and Panoramic views of New York as a whole. This is the sole reason i love walking the bridge, it is therapeutic and the views are unmatched.

FOLLOWING the walk, I then went to the Upper East side of New York via the most common way of travel - the subway.
There on the Upper East Side I sipped my herbal tea while enjoying the feeling of being on the "Upper East Side". In my head, I envisioned a scene from Sex and The City- the inspiration behind my currently sipping High Tea on the quite and posh Manhattan suburb.

NEXT up was Central Park which was only a few minutes walk from Alice's Tea Cup but first I had to find comfortable shoes to wear. I had on the most comfortable high heeled boots one could ever hope to find, but after spending the previous night going to The Empire State Building to admire panoramic views of the city and then going rooftop bar hoping, my feet were starting to protest.
I walked into the nearest shoe shop and quickly walked back out again after realising that I am in-fact in Manhattan on the Upper East Side and the boutique shops here are a tad bit on the pricier side. Finding an affordable fair of flats proved challenging until i stumbled upon H&M.

JANDALS on and feeling a world of relief, I set out out for what turned out to be an amazing afternoon exploring Central Park and all its beauty. I read the history of the place, watched some very talented street performers and enjoyed a gelato sitting by a simple yet beautiful park bench admiring the trees.
The beautiful afternoon was cut short as I had to get back to my hotel and rest some before my flight back to Los Angeles but I made a promise to be back to explore more of the beautiful park.

Oh! did I mention that through all this I am wearing PYJAMAS!! Yes you read that right!, when I first saw that floral Satin pyjama set at the warehouse I knew I would be wearing it in the Big Apple.
After all New York is one of the biggest fashion cities out there!!.

As COCO CHANEL put it- "Fashion Fades, only Style Remains The Same"
SO what better way to be original than to wear my favourite dress attire of the day!!

IF you have read this far, thank you and i hope it was a pleasant read.
